Welcome to Broken Sword Publications. I started this publishing house with the simple goal of getting my own writing out there on the market. Without really knowing what I was doing, I am still at it…learning new things every other day. After several attempts at getting traditional publishers to sneeze in my direction I decided to take matters in to my own hands – this is the result.
So far my humble publishing house holds only my works, which is fine, as that was the original goal. It seems to be a trend for authors to self-publish these days and for a few it has worked out – for others, not so much. One of the pluses of not having a big pub over your shoulder is that you get raw product – that can be a very good thing. In my case I feel that my writing touches nerves I am not wholly sure a big pub would allow to be touched without editing/sanitizing.
Originally, I envisioned BSP being an underground pub house, and in many ways it is just that, but only because my own writing is quite underground in comparison to what you will find at Barnes & Noble. I wanted to publish my writing and stuff similar to my own writing because I know, through years of frustration with the industry, writing in this particular style is not so popular with the big pubs. I can promise you, you will not find any books like mine at your local chain bookstore. I’ll let you decide if that’s a good thing or not.
That is not to say that I am not open to taking submissions for publication (because I am) but if you are wondering why there are only a couple of titles available for sale…well, now you know why.
I started this company in late 2007 and I am still here, struggling to find time to update the website and equally struggling to find time to put together, edit and publish new books. Know this: I am always working. The new material might be trapped on the pages of a beat up old journal (as opposed to on the blog or better yet in a shiny new book) but I continue on with this addiction of writing and I hope to share it with you, the reader.
BSP is a now a very small and independent American publishing company that specializes in printing my own material as well as (hopefully) pursuing authors and artists whose work would not otherwise see print.
I am still quite interested in publishing an anthology of underground writing. If you are interested in contributing to such an anthology, writing a guest spot for the blog, doing an interview to promote your work or featuring your art let me know. In the meantime, support independent writers and buy a book or two. I will try and keep the blog interesting and updated, time permitting.
